February is nearly here, and let’s all cross our fingers and hope we don’t hear ‘New Year – New You’ for another eleven months (or ever).
We don’t need a new version of ourselves, although we should have a chat about winter skin.
I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be more dried out and flaky right now. And stats say that 80% of you are in the same boat – chronically dry/dehydrated skin.
Yes – 80%!
Gadzooks, Batman!
How is this possible? Especially when so many of us have shiny t-zones?
Well, that’s where we have to dive a tad deeper…
There’s a difference between dry and dehydrated.
Dry = lack of oil
Dehydration = lack of water
And of course, some of us are lucky enough to be both. (Insert eye rolling emoji.)
So, even oily skin can be dehydrated, and if it is, it will produce even more oil. Hello? Does someone have some oil blotters?
Why should we care?
Because dry/dehydration is as damaging to our skin as the sun and free-radical exposure. Yes! You read that right. If we’re going to run around without fixing our dry skin, we might as well chase a city bus inhaling exhaust all while forgetting our SPF.
Think That’s Way Too Dramatic?
Here’s what the Mayo Clinic has to say, ‘When your skin is dry, it means you’re exposing it to elements that are damaging skin cells faster than your body can repair them.’
And that will eventually lead to aging.
On the sunny side, there’s an easy fix.
And here they are:
Luxury Category
Amore Pacifica – Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Creme – $150
Everything about this moisturizer is over the top decadent and luxurious. From the super-rich texture to the mild fragrance to how it makes your skin feel oh-so-soft and plump and youthful when you use it.
Mostly, I use this as a PM moisturizer, but if you’re super dry 24-7, you’ll likely love it under make-up too.
Why I’m A Fangirl – I can’t describe how amazing this luxe cream feels going on. I swear my skin makes slurping sounds as it drinks up all that lovely moisture.
There is also a lighter gel cream version – Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel Oil-Free. Which is sheer perfection for:
- those of you who like a lighter texture
- live in warmer climates
- whose skin only needs a drink of water.
Prestige Category:
Tatcha – The Dewy Skin Cream – $68
The texture is slightly lighter than the Amore Pacifica but equally hydrating. And it must contain some magical potion because it takes a nanosecond to soak in. Which means no wait time before you slap on foundation. Score!
It’s also loaded (I mean seriously packed) with about a million anti-oxidants. So, for those of us who are fighting the battle against aging – this is a winner!
Helpful Hint – The directions talk about using the golden spoon to scoop out the product. But, for the life of me, I couldn’t find the darn thing. Call me slow, but I finally realized the cute bow on the top of the lid was actually the spoon.
They also offer a Water Cream version for you dehydrated girls.
Budget-Friendly Category:
Clinique Moisture Surge Intense – $39.50
Here are more size and price info.
This is the lightest of all the textures. It doesn’t really advertise the anti-aging benefits of the others but will absolutely drench your face with moisture. It’s also fragrance-free – which I love.
Why I’m A Fan: You can use this as a mask. I like to put on a thick layer when my face is especially tight or flaky, leave it on for half a Shark Tank episode, then tissue off whatever hasn’t soaked in. Which usually isn’t a lot.
Amazing!
They too, have a lighter formula – Moisture Surge 72 Hour, which keeps skin hydrated for… you guessed it 72 hours.
So there are the top three picks for the Best Dry Skin Moisturizer.
Together we’re gonna’ fight off that nasty damage that’ll make us look old before we’re ready.
Thoughts? Is there one we missed?
