‘Oh, my God! You look horrid in yellow.’

Yep. That was my girlfriend when I walked out of the dressing room this weekend at Nordstrom. In case you doubted it, she was definitely talking to me.

And the dress was not hideous. In fact, it was super cute. Just not cute on me. And while it was outside my chosen colour palette, it was totally one of my selected shapes from my Style Guide selections. (Apparently, there’s a reason we pick and stick to a palette.)

A couple thoughts on her candor:

One, blunt honesty is part of her job as my girlfriend. Otherwise, how would she stop me from making bad buying decisions? So, check.

Number two is that chicks with sexy Australian accents can get away with saying anything.

#so unfair

But I’m not a quitter, and I sure as heck wasn’t ready to admit defeat.

I mean, yellow is the popular color for Spring. It’s so bright and cheerful and hopeful.

How can I not support that?

A couple stops later we hit pay dirt at Anthropologie, where they’re taking this sunshine theme to another level.

I raced to the accessory alcove and immediately fell in love with this yellow clutch. The leather is as soft as Stanley’s chubby puppy belly, and at the risk of pulling a Goldilocks, the size is ideal – not too small, not too large. Exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

Anthropologie doesn’t carry the same merchandise in all their stores. So, I went on-line to check out what other styles are available and couldn’t believe all the fun options.
