I’m so excited! This is the first post inspired by the survey y’all sent in last month. Not surprising, your suggestions were terrific! And it’ll take a bit, but I’ll get to all of them. Promise.
Now onto Dee’s burning question…
I say question, but it was really more of a statement – ‘I don’t see how you can wear high heels all the time.’
I got so pumped when I read that because it’s so much easier than you think.
So, here are my 4 1/2 tips to finding and loving high heels.
#1 – Shop at The End of Your Day
It’s not very sexy, but our feet swell throughout the day, especially if we spend a lot of time on our feet. So, if we shoe shop at the end of the day when are feet are slightly larger, whatever we buy will definitely work the rest of the time.
#2 – Wiggle Room
No, it’s not a new dance club. (Although that would be an awesome name for one.) I’m actually talking about your toes. Nothing has the power to make us grumpier than when our toes are crushed together. So, make sure the styles you purchase allow for toe movement.
#3 – Platforms All Day
This tip is super important if you stand a lot or walk a bunch. Nothing will ensure we’re crabby by 6pm like having the balls of your feet pounding concrete for eight hours. The platform (and it doesn’t have to be huge) will absorb some of the shock and cushion our feet.
#4 – Block Heel
This is a great tip for anyone who doesn’t wear heels a lot. The thicker heel adds stability and balance and again helps absorbs some of the shock to our heel bones.
#1/2 – There Is A Perfect Heel Height for You
A British podiatrist came up with a formula called PHH (short for Perfect Heel Height). I won’t kill you with all the technical stuff, but it’s all about the flexibility of your talus bone. In case you’re not a podiatrist, the talus bone is part of the ankle joint.
She has this whole formula on how to figure out the perfect heel height for you. Here’s the link in case you love the technical stuff or are studying to be a foot doctor.
The formula was a little complicated for me. (Of course, I have to use my fingers to calculate the bartender’s tip, so it’s likely a personal issue.) An easier formula is to think about the most comfortable pair of shoes in your closet. How high are those heels? Two-inches? Three inches? Whatever that number is, that’s likely the perfect heel height for your talus.
So there are the 4.5 Tips to finding comfortable heels;
- Shop at the end of the day
- Toe wiggle room
- Platforms equal cushion
- Thicker heels give stability
- And finally, find the perfect height for you

‘Til next week.
Hugs and happy shopping.
P.S. Swing by next week when we’re going to answer another tribe member’s question about the best fashion jewelry brands. It’s was grueling research, but someone’s gotta do it.
P.P.S. If you missed last week’s post about Sunny Yellow Handbags you can catch now.
I gathered together a few of the shoe styles that match our comfort needs right here. If you love one of them, make sure you ‘heart’ it so you’ll get an alert when they go on sale.
