As the calendar ticks towards November, we find ourselves smack dab in boot season.
Which is great! Boots are awesome. However, they can be tough for Petites.
In addition to all the… do they fit my calves? Is the super-stiff leather going to cause blisters galore? Are they going to rub the back of my legs raw? And on and on.
Petites have to consider color and height, and if all the extra accouterments will make them look even shorter.
So usually an article about boots would be a cautionary tale.
But not this season. Nope.
Granted, I’m a bit biased. But it really feels like designers had Petite girls firmly in mind this year. Because there are soooo many perfect options.
Ready to stop talking and check them out? Yeah! Me, too.
#1 Cowboy Boots
How much do you love Beth Dutton?!? For those of you who haven’t watched Yellowstone yet, you really must. Because that girl is a total badass and rocks a slip dress and cowboy boots like no other.
If you’ve been thinking about giving the look a try yourself, nothing should hold you back. There are literally a bazillion new styles just waiting to look amazing on you.
On the cowboy boot fencepost?
Here are some things to consider…
- They are a super-smart style investment. While they’re red hot this season, they never really go out of style. Meaning you can wear them for years and years to come.
- They go with everything; skirts, dresses, jeans, or shorts. And anything else I might’ve missed.
- Feel like your outfit is missing a little something something? Pop on a pair, and your cool factor immediately shoots through the roof.
Bold Proclamation
I believe in my heart every woman on the planet should own a pair of Frye Boots. Slip them on with a tiered or slip dress, and you have an instant outfit hit. Could not be easier!
I have a few, but my favorite is the Harness, pictured above. They come in different heights, so figure out where you want them to hit your leg and order accordingly. (To give some context, I’m almost 5’2″ and have the 12R.)
Now, while I consider myself a cowboy boot purest. Meaning I avoid flashy colors and crazy exotic leathers, I’m absolutely obsessed with Free Bird.
Petite Tip:
Before you head over to their site and start adding to cart, keep in mind that the more minimalist styles will flatter Petites best. Meaning you’ll want to stay away from a bunch of unnecessary details like tons of fringe, a bunch of buckles, etc.
A couple things to love about Free Bird
I like a little damage, and the weathered leather makes them look like you’ve owned them for ages.
They have tons of styles that hit right under the knee — the perfect height for Petites.
There are tons of styles with a bit of heel adding a smidge of height for Petites without sacrificing comfort.
One more style you need to see before we move onto trend #2…
#2 – Slouch
I hear all the time from clients who think their calves are too skinny for their thighs. If you’re in that boat, this style is perfect because it adds the illusion of balance to your legs.
This is an ideal option for work.
Petite Tip For Making Your Legs Look Longer:
- The pointed toe adds the illusion of longer legs.
- Choose a color that’s close to or matches your skin tone, and you’ll avoid making your legs look shorter.
- Or if you’re going to wear with tights, go monochromatic. For example black boots, black tights, black bottom.
Here is a more casual weekend option.
Yet another perfect choice for the office.
#3 Lug Sole
The innate industrial vibe makes lug sole boots a fun, stylish dichotomy when paired with flowy Fall dresses.
#4 Combat Boots
Another timeless classic. This Fall, however, designers have brought us some lighter colors that make them super Petite friendly.
Honest moment – Combat boots can be tough for Petites because the majority of styles hit just over the ankle or lower calf – the most unflattering boot height for Petites.
However, this Fall, we have options! Can I get a heck yeah?
This is a fun option because it incorporates two Fall trends – a lug sole and a lighter color.
You can’t talk combat boots without mentioning Dr. Martens. The height of his classic 1B60 style is perfect for Petites. Not to mention, it is such a timeless style you’ll be able to wear them for decades.
#5 – Platform
Perfect for the Petite who wants to add some height without the pain that can come with stilettos. And boy! Are there are tons of cute options that go from the office to happy hour in a blink.
Here are a few of my favorites.
Extra Credit: Sneaker Boots (Or if you’re my age, high tops. 🙂
You know when you’re shopping, and you see something, but don’t buy it? Yet, you keep thinking about them and come up with a thousand things in your closet the item would look super cute with?
Well, that’s what happened with these. They can dress down a skirt or dress in the best way possible. Perfect for antiquing, strolling through the farmers market, running errands, and a million other times when you want to look cute, be casual, and feel comfy.
They come in both black and white, but I’m thinking we need both. And maybe pink.
