I love fun facts. Especially when it comes to fashion. So here’s one for you. (Feel free to bust it out at parties if conversation lags or turns awkwardly silent.)
10% of women in the US are over 5’7”. Using my questionable math skills, that’s about 17 million women.
So, it’s no real shock that a plethora of Leggy Girl stores have cropped up in the last few years.
Yet still, I hear clients all the time say they can’t find pants long enough.
Well, girl, you’re in luck. ‘Cause this article will solve all your pant problems.
First things first – What’s Your Goal? AKA What’s Your Ideal Inseam?
What’s an inseam? Yeah! I’m so glad you asked. The inseam is the measurement from the crotch of your pants to the hem.
How To Find Your Magical Measurement?
If you own a pair of pants that you love and is the perfect length, brilliant! Grab a tape measure and find your number.
If everything you own is too short. That’s cool. Because we have a starting point. Go ahead and slip them on (with shoes) and see how much longer you’d like them to be. Add that to the actual inseam, and you have your target number.
Pro Tip – Don’t forget the shoes! If you love flats, great. But if you adore heels, make sure to tack on those extra 2,3, or 4 inches.
Now, knowing your perfect inseam and finding it can be two very different things.
No worries, Sunshine! I’ve got you covered. Here are my seven favorite places to shop for extra leggy clients. Along with tips to navigating their site and what they do well.
Oh! I also broke them out by casual or career to make it easier to find your new favorite place to shop.
Let’s dive in.
Casual:
#1 – Paige
Their selection is bonkers! They have all the leg shapes; flare, cropped flare, wide leg, bootcut, and of course, skinny.
If you’d like tips on which leg shape will flatter you best, make sure to snag the Free Cheat Sheet below.
If you’re looking for a dressier denim option, make sure to check out their ‘The Nines’ section. You’ll find that perfect mix of casual, but not too casual. Comfy, but not yoga pants comfy.
Their sweet spot for inseams is 34 ½”, but make sure to check out the ‘extra long’ tab for all their options.
#2 – Alloy Apparel
Their prices are super reasonable, making them affordable for even tight budgets. Plus, they do more than just pants. You’ll find maxi dresses and skirts and they carry a cute selection of athleisure wear.
Their most popular inseams are 35” and 37” and the majority of their styles go to a size 20.
#3 – American Tall
Their claim to fame? They fit women up to 6’6″!
Currently, they don’t offer a ton of options. However, if you’re searching for that perfect pair of dark denim or black skinny jeans, you have to check them out.
The majority of their denim is medium weight and has a bit of spandex. Meaning they’ll be super comfortable and will keep the shape. No saggy bottom for you!
I also like how transparent they are about their models. It clearly states, ‘She’s 5’11” 180 lbs.’ or whatever. Which helps give a smidge of perspective on how the style will look and fit you. Super helpful, right?!?
#4 – 7 For All Mankind
Girl! If you’re looking for trendy seasonal options and know which rise you love (low, classic, or high), then their site will have you doing cartwheels. ‘Cause they share all the details.
Career:
#5 – BCBG
This is a great dressier option for work, GNO, or even a cocktail party. Not to mention a refreshing change from ankle length skinny pants.
They’re not super consistent about sharing all the measurements, but do give model stats which can help. For example, the model in the picture above is 5’11” and is wearing a small.
#6 – Banana Republic
BR is the perfect place to find those classic closet staples. Their measurements are a little harder to find, but if you tap on ‘details’ and then ‘fit and sizing’ you’ll find what you’re looking for. I also love their inclusive sizing. They offer everything from 00-20. Their most common ‘long’ inseam is 33″, so make sure that’s lengthy enough for you.
#7 – Ann Taylor
They offer up to 36″ inseam, which is awesome for tall girls who have been searching for toe skimming work pants.
To avoid wasting time looking at styles that don’t come in ‘tall’. Go to ‘new arrivals’ on the top menu bar, then you can filter down by category; blouses, dresses, and of course pants.
Put A Bow On It:
That’s a wrap, my leggy friend. Just a reminder… before shopping for pants, find your ideal inseam and then head over to one of these sites that’ll make finding pants long enough easy breezy.
Enjoy!
And as always…
Hugs and happy shopping.
