As the calendar ticks toward the end of November, we find ourselves smack dab in boot season.
Which is fun for so many reasons, one of the best being the immediate cool girl factor they give your outfit. Not to mention how badass we feel prancing around in them.
Plus, they’re a super smart investment. Because the same styles have been popular for the last two, maybe even three seasons. In fact, looking back on last fall’s best boot trends article, it could’ve been written yesterday.
In case you’d like a quick refresh, here are the Hot Boot Styles for Fall/Winter 2024:
- Cowboy
- Moto
- Slouch
- Knee High
- Lug Sole
- Chelsea
- Platform
However, when it comes to choosing boots that flatter, Petites need to get super picky. Picky about color and height, toe shape, and which outfits they’ll wear with them.
Why The Right Boots Matter When You’re Short…
As Petites, the goal is to make savvy style choices that create the illusion of length. Similar to pairing separates, wonky choices can chop us off prematurely and make us look shorter and wider.
This is a perfect example. See how the long blazer, cropped pants, and boots cuts her off in three different places? Maybe okay for women who’re 6’ tall.
Not at all awesome on women who are 5’3” or less.
Here are the top tips for making boots work FOR us.
#01: Pointed Toe
If your feet are screaming in pain just at the thought of pointed-toe boots, there’s good news. They don’t have to be ice-pick sharp. Even a soft point will visually add length to your leg and create a more flattering effect.
#02: A Column of Color (Monochromatic or Darn Close)
VB does great Petite style. And her boot ensembles are no exception. By pairing that dark, dark navy skirt with black boots she has created a column of color that gives the appearance she’s much taller than her reported 5’3”.
In case you want to try recreating this look for yourself, the key is making sure the skirt overlaps the top of the boots, so zero skin shows.
#03: Tights/Hose/Trouser Socks
Chelsea boots are definitely the must-have style of the season. The problem is, ankle height can be challenging for us short girls. However, when paired with a matching pair of tights or hose, it can work to our benefit.
#04: Straight Or Wide Leg Pants
Another way Petites can successfully pull off Chelsea boots this season is by pairing them with straight or wide-leg pants. (Straight leg is best for straighter, more athletic, Balanced Body shapes, and wide leg is perfect for women with Slim Thighs & Narrow Hips)
The cuff is entirely optional but does add a decidedly modern twist to this boots and denim look. Plus it solves the problem of what to do with all that denim taking up space in your closet but not being worn because they’re too bloomin’ long.
#05: Have A Plan
No matter which style boots you’re excited to try, or thinking to add to your wardrobe, the most important thing is to have a plan before shopping.
It’s not sexy. And honestly requires a lot of self-control. However, the result is helping us avoid adding another item in our closet we don’t or can’t wear.
And the more specific our specifications, the better. ‘Cause the last thing we want is to buy a cute pair of boots only to get them home and realize they’re not the right color, not the right length, or need to have a higher heel to truly be flattering.
